After completing my VCE I enrolled at Holmesglen TAFE to do a pre apprenticeship in carpentry as well as a few subjects in the associate diploma in building construction. After completing my course at Holmesglen and winning the best pre apprentice award for that year, I found myself an apprenticeship with a small building firm doing mostly renovations and small scale new residential building projects. I was taught all aspects of carpentry from framing and set outs through to fixing and completion.

I spent the next four years with this company and it helped me immensely to become the tradesman that I am today. We not only did carpentry but also did a lot of work with other trades like roof plumbing, concreting, bricklaying, painting and tiling. When I finished my apprenticeship I went straight out and subcontracted to a range of different builders to save money.

I then spent the next few years travelling around Australia, the UK and America doing various contract work in the building industry, including residential builds and project managing a large hotel refurbishment. This gave me a great insight to different building styles and techniques.

Upon returning to Australia in 2002 I returned to sub-contract carpentry while I underwent a certificate IV in building and construction management and applied to become a Registered builder to start my own construction company. We mainly specialized in residential construction and extensions. I still run this construction company and am still working on the tools and managing projects. While I have been running my building company I have continued with professional development by completing subjects towards a diploma in building surveying. My love for the building industry has now lead me to building inspections where I hope I can use my expertise to help people feel confident when they purchase or build their dream home.
